A Brief History of The
Bricker House
Lewis and Alice Bricker built this three story home and carriage house in 1909.
It is said Mr. Bricker began his bakery business on this property. In 1915 he
built a larger brick building to house his West Shore Bakery known for breads and
cakes one block over on Bosler Avenue. This bakery was later known as Manbecks
and the structure, renovated in the last few years, still stands on its original
site.
The Bricker home was the site of many garden parties held on the grounds and
tennis court until the family sold the property in 1944 to Dallas and Mary
Hempley. The Hempleys turned the first floor of the home into the Dal Mar Inn, a
successful restaurant that hosted many special occasions in the community such
as weddings and parties. Later the Hempleys sold the property to
Wilmar Romberger who continued to operate the restaurant as the Rose Tree Tea
Room. In 1954 it became the Rife's family home and restaurant and
in the 1980's became a rental property. In 2002 George and Janet Davis purchased
the property for complete renovation. Although The Bricker House has been
renovated back to its old style we are proud to say it is a highly functional
house for today's needs and accessible for those with physical limitations.
